The Rock of Israel

(Hebrew: צור ישראל‎, Tzur Yisrael) is a concept in Judaism that alludes to God, and in Zionism and politics, to the cultural and historical heritage of the Jewish people and the foundation of the State of Israel. The term was used in the Israeli Declaration of Independence as a compromise between religious and secular Jews.

New York City is the Rock in the Bible:

Although it pops up along the Harlem River and on Marble Hill at Manhattan's very northern end, In wood dolomite makes a cursory appearance on New York City's geologic stage. The star of the show is the approximately 380 million-year-old Manhattan schist — layers of metaphoric rock — which geologists believe began life as sand and clay on the bottom of the ocean. Movement, heat, and pressure over millions of years created the schist that exists today — a hard, durable rock able to support the weight of towering buildings. Tiny bits of white mica give exposed schist a glittery look, which has caught many a person's eye as they strolled through Central Park on a sunny day. Over the last 100 or so years of subway and water tunnel construction, work crews occasionally unearthed garnet and other sparkly gems as they honeycombed the Manhattan schist creating the city's subterranean passageways

Given the dimensions of a 1,400-mile cube, if the city consisted of different levels (we don’t know this), and if each story were a generous twelve feet high, the city could have over 600,000 stories. If they were on different levels, billions of people could occupy the New Jerusalem, with many square miles per person.

If these numbers are figurative, not literal (and that is certainly possible), surely they are still meant to convey that the home of God’s people will be extremely large and roomy.

The cube shape of the New Jerusalem reminds us of the cube shape of the Most Holy Place in the Temple (1 Kings 6:20), the three dimensions perhaps suggestive of the three persons of the Trinity. God will live in the city, and it is his presence that will be its greatest feature.

A Queens man has discovered enough hidden treasure — bits of diamonds, rubies, platinum and gold — on the gritty sidewalks of Midtown’s Diamond District to make a living.

Apollo Diamond Inc. was a company based in Boston, Massachusetts that was able to produce nearly flawless single crystal diamond wafers and crystals for potential use in the optoelectronics, nanotechnology, and consumer gem markets. The company used chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for the production of their gem-sized synthetic diamond crystals, and obtained several U.S. patents on the process. The company's techniques were able to produce colorless gems, in contrast to previous diamond-making techniques which usually produced colored diamonds.

Scio Diamond Technology Corporation (OTCBB: SCIO) is a synthetic diamond manufacturer that produces near flawless single-crystal diamonds for gemstone and industrial applications, in Greenville, SC. The company produces chemical vapor deposition (CVD) gem-sized synthetic diamond crystals using processes pioneered by Apollo Diamond, and has acquired Apollo Diamond's technology and assets including several U.S. patents on the processes.

Many assets of Apollo Diamond were acquired by Scio Diamond Technology Corporation in 2011, which said that it plans to produce synthetic diamond at its South Carolina facility using Apollo Diamond technology.^[
Diamonds are made out of carbon — highly organized carbon, that is. Geologists are still guessing how diamonds formed in the Earth from 1 billion to 3 billion years ago, according to a recent study in the journal Nature, but they think the recipe follows something like this:

1. Bury carbon dioxide 100 miles into Earth.

2. Heat to about 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit.

If the process sounds a little difficult, thank a synthetic diamond manufacturer: There are now two ways to make diamonds in the laboratory.

Researchers have developed a new technique for making very large diamonds of high quality that could soon boost optics technology and gaudily adorn fingers of the wealthy with sparkling rocks up to an inch wide.
Using a process called chemical vapor deposition (CVD), several groups have figured out how to make diamonds. But growing them over 3 carats has proved challenging.
