The Highlands County One Cent Tax Referendum

The Highlands County One Cent Tax Referendum

To be vote on in the Primary Elections is on Tuesday 26 August 2014:

CONTINUATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT

INFRASTRUCTURE SURTAX Sec. 212.055(2) F.S.

Shall the County Commissioners of Highlands County continue to levy a one cent

sales tax for Local Government Projects such as the following for a term of

fifteen years commencing January 1, 2019:

  • Road System upgrade and expansion
  • Parks and recreation
  • Lake and waterway improvements
  • Governmental facilities upgrade, expansion, construction, and acquisition
  • Municipal improvement projects
  • Governmental vehicles and equipment

I am for this tax, because these things will only enhance our county, attract new businesses and with the elections coming up in November to determine the fate of the medical marijuana laws, in the state of Florida; It will put us in a stronger position to get most of the tax revenues from medical marijuana sales tax revenue, to be redirected into CRA designated areas in Avon Park, FL.

Al Joe Hinson the President of the NAACP, is running for School Board in District One.  As a 501 c 3 non profit public charity, I cannot endorse him as President of the National Community Network, INC.  However, I truly feel an alliance between community leaders and the NAACP, will rectify this and act as a solution for future elections and campaigns.

This can really help us unify our community if we first agree to a political agenda, which will advance our community. I do not know, but being the president of the NAACP, being the only 501 c (4)  political organization in our community, may require a lot more community support, than they currently have.

Rev. Frank Paul Jones aka Apostle Paul Castellano
